Beautiful Beaches

First week of School, first week of back into routines, so of course here I am sat at my computer flicking through our holiday photos whilst I should really be tending to my neglected chores………

Port sorell camping57 (640x427) (2)

But honestly I would much rather be here reminiscing the fun, relaxing times we had with family and friends, taking in this beautiful scenery…………………….

Port sorell camping2 (640x427)

Sunshine, bright blue skies, mountains, and endless clear beaches……………………………

Port sorell camping37 (640x427) (2)

Grateful to be able to get out and about and enjoy exploring this spectacular Island home we have missed………………………

We have been doing a bit of exploring lately, some camping, some day trips out and about to get off the beaten track, I will think about these trips today, and the smiles on my little ones faces as they explored the World around them, they are back at School today, learning and exploring again, and hopefully they are still having an amazing time, and have huge smiles like they did yesterday on their first day back into it.

For me I am off to do those chores, take care xx

New Year 2015

photo (2)

Wow!! I cannot believe it has been a full year since I blogged….. so much has happened and I am not sure where to start!   I have settled down at my computer with a hot cup of tea, and have been reading my own blog posts from this time last year, where it seems I was busy knitting Christmas gifts and living in Western Australia.   The biggest change in my life in the past 12 months would be the reason for my blog absence, we made the move from Western Australia all the way back to our small Island home of Tasmania, it was a huge decision, an unexpected decision, and we have been very busy ever since.

I have been missing my blog, which I had to break from due to no internet whilst in transit, then we lived in a caravan for quite some time once arriving here in Tassie, and my internet access was extremely limited.  I have been keeping up with my instagram feed however, and love to go back through my feed every now and again to look back over our journey.

With a New Year beginning, I have decided to make time to get back into my blog and am rather excited as I sit here and type, looking out over my very own vegetable garden, which has just this week started to flourish with peas and beans ready to harvest, tomatoes on the vine growing nicely, zucchini, pumpkin and capsicum in flower, and carrots all in rows.  Something I have dreamed about for years, providing for our family in our own back yard.

This past year has seen lots of change, and some of the same things……..

Knitting as always……..

Actually rather a lot of knitting especially during our first Winter back here in Tasmania.

Lots of baking………

A bit of exploring, and sight seeing.  Getting reacquainted with this pretty and very scenic Island we now once again call home.

We have just returned back from an impromptu camping trip, which we truly enjoyed with great friends and family.  I love the holidays, wonderful time of the year, we enjoyed an abundance of sunshine, fresh sea air and relaxing by the seaside with our little ones paddling in the water.

Now we are home sweet home, refreshed and relaxed, however it might just take a little adjusting to get back into the routine of home life…..

Thank you for reading my blog, Take care xx

Wildflowers

I would like to share some more wildflower photos from our Spring vacation.  It is nice to look back and remember exploring through the bush looking for treasures, and of course keeping a watchful eye out for snakes, but thankfully being the beginning of Spring it was still a little cool for them to be out.   Anyway enough about slithery things and back to pretty wildflowers……

wildflowers

I am not familiar with flowers, I just love to photograph them and appreciate the beauty in nature.  I have however done a search and I believe these are known as Purple Tassel.  They were a very pretty shade of purple with a nice pop of yellow.

pom-poms

Love these yellow pom pom flowers, very summery and happy.

single-pom

This is one of the pom pom flowers up close, they are made from tiny individual flowers.

fringed-orchid

This pretty one is a fringe lily.  Such vibrant colouring, and when the sun falls upon its petal they sparkle and shine.  Very pretty.

flower

I was very surprised by how tiny most of these wildflowers were, such detail and vibrancy in such a tiny parcel.  As you can see sometimes the reverse side of the flower petals were very interesting also.

enamel-orchids

Pink enamel orchids, these ones had a lovely shiny sheen on their petals hence their name.

reverse-enamel

The reverse side of the pink enamel orchid surprised me and I had to capture it for memory.

purple

Not sure what these ones are called, but again delightful colours and patterns.

donkey-orchids

This one is the donkey orchid.  I have already shared a photo of this one in an earlier post, but there were so many of them on the day that I had to include them in this post.

angels

And lastly these little flowers, which we were calling angel flowers because they look like sweet little angels.  They were so tiny, about the size of my fingernail,  very tricky to photography especially with the light breeze we had, which was lovely for us but not for taking photographs.

I still have many more wildflower photographs to share another day, today I am thinking about doing some more crochet.   Although lately whenever I say that I do not get to pick up my yarn and hook til rather late in the evening, but I really need to get some more Christmas presents crafted.  I really like handmade gifting, and will endeavour to find more hours in the day to get more made.

It is a lovely sunny Spring day here, and I have my windows open letting the fresh sea breeze flow through.  The patio is looking very enticing for our lunch, perhaps I can extend lunch into crochet time.

By The Seaside

I enjoy looking back through our vacations photos, brings it all back nice and fresh in my memory.   Especially when I am finding it hard to get back into the swing of things, so I am happy to share some lovely seaside photos here today.

Spring-vacation-shells-at-d

One of my favourite things to do is simply fossick along the shoreline for pretty shells, I remember doing this as a child, and now I am doing the same thing with my children, and it is wonderful.

shells

Look at all these gorgeous teeny tiny little shells.  Can you imagine a beach made entirely from billions of these tiny shells……… we visited one such beach and appropriately it is called Shell Beach.  It is apparently one of only two beaches like this in the World.  Amazing……

spring-vacation-shark-bay-s

Bright blue sky, crisp white shells, and the clear sea water………. was spectacular indeed.

From here we headed further along the coast and found some pretty impressive beaches and very nice weather, after leaving grey stormy days it was a bit of a surprise to the senses to be in such warm weather.  There was lots of slip, slop, slap, sunsmart practice happening this week.

Spring-vacation-monkey-mia

We spent some lovely days here on this beach, and seen some very friendly sealife doing their own thing as they desired.  This is Monkey Mia, located within the Shark Bay World Heritage Area in Western Australia.

pelican

This is Mr Pelican, who was paddling along the waters edge.  We stopped and said hi and then went on our way.  The water is absolutely beautiful, crystal clear, turquoise blues, very enticing.

dolphins

Oh the joy I felt when this dolphin swam past as we were wading along, we were so lucky this day as the dolphins were doing their natural thing, had spotted some yummy looking fish and were hunting them along the shoreline, so they came close to us, we simply had to stand still and let them do their thing and take lots of photos of course.   Some lucky swimmers had them swimming around them, you could see the delight on the young swimmers face, reflected in my own as they swam past me I am sure.   Most of the day you see them here and there off in the distance, but to see them come in this close was wonderful indeed.  Oh I absolutely adore dolphins, they are simply beautiful.

spring-vacation-denham-boat

This is the nearby town of Denham, we would stroll along the beachfront every day to enjoy the sights, and I must say I took a lot of dinghy photos, but I do like them, looking very relaxed resting on the beaches.  We would spend our evenings relaxing on the beaches ourselves, with our picnic tea, how easily I could go back there right now, it was very enjoyable.  We seen so many lovely sights, and most of all I enjoyed spending time with my loved ones, hopefully making many happy memories for our little ones.  They do talk about our vacation, the many exciting sights we seen, the activities we filled our spare time with, and I like to think that even though they are young, they will remember this for years to come.

And now I am off to make a cup of tea, before I have a few chores to do then hopefully I might be able to do a few rows of knitting whilst dreaming more about our vacation days.

Enjoy xx

Spring Vacation

Sorry I have not blogged for a few weeks, we decided at the last minute to go away for a Spring Vacation,  we packed up our little camper and away we went for a couple of weeks of sunshine and sightseeing.   We spent time exploring the countryside we passed through until we eventually reached our destination which I am happy to say was by the seaside.   I do love the seaside, and I think living in the great outback of Australia for biggest part of the last 6 years has made me appreciate it even more.  I would like to share some of our Spring Vacation, starting with the countryside.

green-hills-bindoon

Rolling green as far as we could see, blue sky, white fluffy clouds and wonderful fresh country air.  We  ventured a little from our main route to visit family who we do not get to see very often, and was delighted when they offered us some space to unfold our camper and spend the night camping with them, it was wonderful to catch up, and made for a lovely start to our vacation.

b-wildflowers

The following morning we got to go wandering and fossicking for wildflowers.  These ones are known as Donkey Orchids, they are very pretty and so very tiny.  We found quite a few different wildflowers, and I enjoyed myself and it kind of reminded me of childhood wandering and exploring, finding treasures.

fungi

We came across this fungi growing from a fallen tree.

bindoon-wildflowers

Then it was time to move on, although I did manage to sneak another wildflower photo in when my Husband stopped to check the camper was travelling okay.

Ellendale-Pools-main

We spent the next night camping near this watering hole, people were swimming, kayaking and enjoying the great outdoors.

Ellendale-Pools

We settled for a lovely serene walk around the waters edge, more exploring was done.

mulla

Where we came across my favourite wildflower, the mulla mulla.   This one was lovely shades of green and yellow,  the pink mulla mulla flowers remind me of fairy floss, so sweet and fluffy to look at, my favourite of the mulla mulla.

The following morning as the rain clouds rolled in, we packed up our camper and headed towards the coast to blue sky and sunshine.  I will post more photos this week as our next destination involves sand, sea, shells, and the most wonderful and friendly sealife.  I hope you can pop back to have a look.

Snapshots and Memories

This week has been rather wet and windy, and most of our time has been spent indoors.  We have been filling our time with crafting, reading, a movie or two, general playing of toys for the children and I have spent a little time going through photos.  Reminiscing through all our old and new photos, some I had actually forgotten about.  I would like to share some on my blog today.

1

This first one was an early morning out and about, perfect weather and managed to capture this lovely silhouette.   I have not made any adjustments to the photo, this is how it was taken with the camera and I really like it.

yacht1

This lone wooden yacht really caught my attention.  It was a dreary, wet and drizzly kind of day and I could not resist taking some photos as a keepsake.  I love how you can look a one photo and so many memories come flooding back.

outback

Another rainy day photo, in the outback this time.   Red dirt, green shrubbery, and grey skies.  Although the red dirt was very wet and flooded this day.

wattles

All this wet weather and I came across these rain laden little yellow wattles, so I really have to include them.  One of the most well known Australian Native plants, I really do love native bush flowers and plants, very pretty, very hardy, and very diverse.

mulla-mulla

This pretty treasure would have to be my favourite native wild flower, the Mulla Mulla.   We Came across an abundance of these when we were living in outback Western Australia.  Such pretty shades of purple and pink, and I am reminded of cotton candy with their fluffy layers.

gumnuts1

And another favourite Australian native of mine,  is the Gum tree.  This tree was laden with all these wonderful gum nuts, hundreds and hundreds of them, we had a great time picking up a few that had naturally fallen to the ground, my children played with them for a very long time, their treasures they were calling them.

I really enjoyed going through these photos, the memories brought back, and new memories being made every day.  Now the plan for today after doing some light housework is to sit and rest, maybe some knitting might be involved and a Sunday afternoon movie I think.  Off now to make a cup of tea, and think of what lovely local ‘treasures’ there might be to venture out and take some photos of……. well when the weather improves a little…..

Take Care xx

Sunday Sunny Sunday

A nice easy Sunday at home is the plan for today, with nothing to do but hopefully have a rest and relax, perhaps with some knitting to calm the mind.

We sometimes like to go for a Sunday drive and have a look out and about, we did this last Sunday and I would like to share some photos of our day with you.

knitting-on-the-go

I took my little stripey beach hut knitting with me, whilst hubby drove and pointed out places of interest as we cruised along.

We passed through many places that we would like to come back to when we have more time to explore.   We did stop to wander through a road side market which we spotted, so many wonderful handmade projects, and sweet stalls with cupcakes, jams, and spreads, little wooden toys for children, it was hard to resist taking a couple things home with us.

robots

Our little ones made a great choice with these cute little wooden robots, keeping them entertained between stops for the remainder of the car trip.

mini-cupcakes

Did I mention there was sweet stalls with the most enticing cupcakes, we could not resist these teensy tiny mini cupcakes, they were the perfect size cupcakes for little ones (and Mummy).  And decorated beautifully indeed.

view-1

Then we ventured along further up into the Hills, and we came upon our first stop where the views where nothing short of spectacular.  We could see the City, those tall building peaks way off into the distance.  We were surrounded by beautiful hills, rolling green, waterfalls, pretty little streams, and fresh country air.

waterfalls

This is the view to the side of the Water Falls, there was a viewing platform above the Falls with grating forming part of the walkway so you could see the water flowing underneath your feet, the kids thought this was fantastic, and so did we.  It was rather windy from the platforms and very refreshing.   The nature walk to and from the Falls was really nice, we stopped and admired all the native plants, and I must say I did get left dawdling behind a couple of times trying to get photos, and at one stage I ran to catch up and our little one thought we were having a race and took off….. Daddy had to run to catch up and slow him down, we all really enjoyed our day out and about.

Dam

We then drove a little bit further along and came upon this Weir, also in the Perth hills.  We stopped and had a picnic lunch under the large shady trees, and must say it was a very popular tourist spot, many visitors were wandering along, chatting and taking photos.

dam-3

We joined them wondering along this long walkway above the water.

dam-2

Taking in the wonderful views, and enjoying the light winter sunshine, it truly was a lovely day, blue skies and white clouds.  Our children had fun making shapes out of the clouds, there were many dinosaurs in the sky this day.

knitting-on-the-go1

Then it was time to turn around and head home, and my knitting began to take shape.   I love love love seeing a different coloured yarn on each needle, I really do.  When dusk started to fall we decided that it would be a lovely end to the day to have our Tea on the Beach.

Dinner-at-the-beach

And this was the perfect ending to a lovely family day out………watching the sunset over the Ocean with my loved ones.

Today, this Sunday will be a quiet day at home, my little ones are happily playing with their toys and enjoying the lovely fresh breeze coming through the open windows, and now I am off to join them, might even settle in with my knitting and make some slow easy progress on my cardigan.

Take care xx
